INTERESTING CASE

GOVT. TIRUVANNAMALAI MEDICAL COLLEGE

DEPT. OF DENTAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

*-A 32 Year old Female pt, came to Dental OPD with complaints of Severe pain and swelling for past 3 months

*- She has consulted many Private practicioners ,who have treated them with Analgesics, but pt not got the relief

.*- After clinical examination and Pantomogram Radiographic evaluation , a provisional diagnosis of Cementifying / Ossifying fibroma was made

CT Facial bones was done, it also confirmed our clinical diagnosis.

Pt was prepared GA, and planned for Surgical Excision under GA

*Surgical Procedure:*
Under GA by Naso tracheal intubation, through intra oral approach, Involved teeth are Extracted , Surgical Excision and Peripheral Osteotomy was done.

Specimen sent for Post Op HPE – report suggested *Ossifying Fibroma of Mandible*

*Ossifying fibroma (OF) of the mandible is a benign, slow-growing, fibro-osseous tumor that mostly occurs in females during their third to fourth decades, typically appearing as an asymptomatic expansion in the posterior region*
*
According to the second WHO classification, benign fibro-osseous lesions in the oral and maxillofacial regions were divided into two categories, osteogenic neoplasm and non-neoplastic bone lesions; cementifying ossifying fibroma belonged to the former category. However, the term “cementifying ossifying fibroma” was reduced to ossifying fibroma in the new WHO classification in 2005.

OF requires radical surgery because of the tendency for recurrence and possibility of malignant transformation

Most OFs, once completely excised, do not recur

*By timely intervention, we have prevented the further progress of the lesion*

*This procedure was done under CMCHIS Scheme*

*We Thank our Dean Sir Dr Jayalal MS & our MS mam for motivation*

We Thank All our Supporting Departments
