History Of Government Thiruvannamalai Medical College and Hospital
- Functioned as a Taluk Hospital since 1950 in the erstwhile combined North Arcot District.
- Upgraded to District Headquarters Hospital in 1989 upon formation of Tiruvannamalai Samburavayar District.
- From 1st April 2012, came under the Directorate of Medical Education and renamed as Government Thiruvannamalai Medical College and Hospital.

Academic Infrastructure
The college block is thoughtfully designed to accommodate all Pre and Para Clinical departments, including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Social & Preventive Medicine, and Forensic Medicine. Each department is fully furnished and equipped in accordance with the norms prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC), catering to an annual intake of 100 MBBS students.
The academic facilities are designed to enhance both teaching and learning experiences. Spacious lecture halls with smart class features provide an interactive environment for students. Each department houses well-equipped laboratories that support hands-on learning and practical training. A centrally updated library, featuring internet-enabled access and E-Consortium resources, serves as a valuable hub for academic research and study. Additionally, the college is equipped with a large auditorium that can seat up to 1000 people, and a spacious examination hall that ensures a smooth and comfortable assessment process.

The hospital is well-equipped with a wide range of Basic and Super Speciality departments, ensuring comprehensive healthcare services to the community. The departments include General Medicine, Paediatrics, Respiratory Medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Oto-Rhinolaryngology (ENT), Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthesiology, Radiodiagnosis, Dental Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Blood Bank, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Nephrology, Cardiology, and Radiation Oncology.
With a functional bed strength of approximately 500, the hospital is capable of handling a high volume of patients efficiently. The Tamil Nadu Accident and Emergency Care Initiative (TAEI) is operational 24/7, offering round-the-clock emergency services. It is fully furnished with state-of-the-art medical equipment and supported by a dedicated team of trained medical professionals, ensuring timely and quality care in critical situations.
